Upload Your Website

Files are usually transferred between computers using FTP - File Transfer Protocol. You can use a dedicated FTP program to upload your files - in which case, refer to it's own instructions - or use Arachnophilia's built in 'Update Web Site' function. Most of the settings will remain the same whatever program you use.

Open your home page 'index.php' in Arachnophilia

From the Tools menu, select 'Update Web Site...'. Then set up the fields as appropriate:

  • Site Name
Your website name - i.e. 'My Website'. This field is just a label for the setup.

  • Server Name
    It's web address - i.e. www.mydomain.com.

  • UserName
The (ftp) login name for your webhosting account.

  • Password
Your password. If you want Arachnophilia to remember this you can check the box!

  • Remote Directory
The Web directory on your webserver - usually 'www' (or 'public_html'). This is where the files are going to.

  • Local Directory
The directory on your PC where your website is stored. This is where the files are coming from.

  • Include Subdirectories
    Yes.

  • Archive Method
    Yes.
This only uploads files which have changed since the last upload (i.e. the file's 'Archive' bit is set to 'Yes'). It sets the 'Archive' property of each file it uploads to 'No'. Whenever the file changes, it's set to 'Yes'... You can set this attribute yourself - just right click on any file, then select 'Properties'.

  • Use PASV Mode
    No.

Once these parameters are entered, you click on the 'Save' button and they're saved. Click on 'Update Site' to upload your pages. Read the help if you need more info.

Note: Arachnophilia can look as though it's 'locked-up' or crashed when it's uploading pages, especially if there are big files. Leave it to work for as long as possible - it always comes back to life eventually.
